Kind of a Rough Week

Major changes at work (not virus related), and a little flooding in the basement (with loss of much of my terrain) has me considering joining the Foreign Legion.  Do they take middle aged recruits?

I need to regroup and try to find my mojo, as right now, I'm running on empty.  I also need to decide which gaming periods to drop, as I won't live long enough to replace everything that has been lost.

Still, I turn on the TV, and see what others are dealing with right now, and it helps me keep it all in perspective.

Stay well out there.

  1. I'm sorry to hear that. I love building terrain, if you would like a hand re-establishing your world send me some guidance at daftrica89@yahoo.com and I would be happy to build it for you. I live just north of Detroit but will be driving to Florida the first week in June and I would be happy to drop it off to you.

    1. Anton, that is a crazy generous offer, and I appreciate it more than you can know (Your work is both amazing and endlessly inspiring). For now, I'm just going to take it slow, fix what I can, and see if I can't get creative with some of the damaged stuff. I'm going to make the most of the newly acquired free space, and am getting excited, thinking of some of the new ways to fill that space (one of the ideas is inspired by your recent Afghan village, which sent me into a frenzy of sketching a post-apoc settlement. I didn't think that I would build it due to space limitations, but now I think it will happen).

Again, thank you, both for the offer, and for sparking my creativity.

  2. Dammit man, I'm sorry to hear that, I hope things pop into the black for ya soon. And I'm pretty sure the Legion is not the answer ;)

    Take care, Brian.

    1. Thanks, and don't worry, Africa is safe. Vietnam may not be, and I'll need to rework my Pacific island stuff in a big way, if I try to bring that back to the table top, but Uwanda and Mugabia are going to continue to slug it out through the peak of the Cold War.

  4. Oh crud, Brian...having been able to play in some of your events, your terrain has always been a thing of beauty...sorry to hear about the flooding!

  7. I want to thank everyone for the kind thoughts.

I'm going to experiment with trying to strip flock off of some terrain tiles and see if they can be refinished. If that doesn't work, I'll re-use what I can, and make new where I need to. With the exception of my Pacific island/colonial terrain, most of what got serious damage is the generic, mostly flat tiles, maybe with roads or shallow depression, but the loss isn't as bad as it might have been (and initially looked to be).

Again, thank you for the posts, they are greatly appreciated.

  8. Any chance a few days with some heat and airblowers going might save some of the wounded?

    1. I've had a lot of luck, the water didn't persist, and once I learned not to rub the wet pieces together as I lifted them off the lower shelves and floor, and dried them, the damage was minimal The flock was mostly undisturbed and a lot only need some touch up. Staining has faded to almost nothing on a lot of it also. The ones that had spackle and similar material in them are toast, and some of the wetter ones took on an orange coloring from dust from some brick in an interior wall, but a lot of the other will see the table-top again.

  9. Brian,
You also! Seems Delaware is very prone. Well my naval unit loved the swimming pool, the other things not so much. Remember I am around for any future gaming.

    1. Hey Jim, Yeah Some of the businesses on South Sandusky really took a hit. Very sad. Haven't forgotten, probably won't do any social gaming until after mid August or so. I want to see how this virus thing plays out in the unlockdown.
